Christmas treat for Hilton Special School children

Dedicated to the community work of Golf in Fiji, National Golf adopted the Fiji Crippled Children Society of Fiji as its charity beneficiary.  We support their programs by hosting the annual Fiji's Greatest Charity Golf Challenge jointly with the Friends of Hilton and the New South Wales of Australia's Spastic Centre.

The Friends of Hilton and the National Golf Association of Fiji are working together with huge support from The Spastic Centre in NSW, Australia in organising Fiji's Greatest Charity Golf Challenge fundraising event to raise money to continue funding the CAL Training Program in Fiji.

Essentially, the CAL Training Program is an early intervention training program for the teachers, caregivers and families of children with cerebral palsy to enable these children access to health care and progress into the normal school curricular if possible or to an appropriate special school.  The CAL Training Program is being implemented by The Spastic Centre who is working closely with the Fiji Crippled Children Society.

It is our vision to see that the disabled children of our beloved country receive proper attention, care and education to enable them reach their full potential and to achieve their own dreams and goals.

About Friends of Hilton:
The 26 participants and now graduates of the Leadership FIJI 2005 Program were required to undertake a community project as part of the year-long leadership program. The group collectively agreed to undertake the “Hilton Project” after having heard of the plight by Mr Frank Hilton (snr) when he addressed the group and shared issues surrounding the need to create a training program for caregivers and families of children with disabilities, particularly cerebral palsy. The initial fundraising project was the “Red October Night” Fundraising Dinner held in October 2005 which raised $26,000. Due to the nature of the project, it was evident that it could not be a one-off event. Therefore, the Leadership FIJI 2005 graduates made a commitment in 2005 to continue with their fundraising effort to ensure the success and sustainability of the CAL Training Program in Fiji, hence 'Friends of Hilton' was borne as their legacy.

About Fiji Crippled Children Society:
The Society has been in operation since the early 1960's and has survived during those years to provide education training and treatment to hundreds of disabled children in Fiji.

The Society operates Hilton Special School which looks after physically handicapped and deaf children who require special education.  It also operates the Early Intervention Centre which caters for young developmentally delayed children who may be physically, mentally, visually or otherwise developed.  The Society also has a hostel, Hilton House, which takes in children with physical or hearing disabilities from other areas of Fiji where there are no special education resources that they require.

We invite and welcome interested volunteers to be part of our annual Charity Golf Challenge and support a worthwhile charity, the Fiji Crippled Children Society.
The next Charity Golf Challenge is on Saturday 25 July 2009 at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, followed by prize giving and dinner on Captain Cook's Sunset Cruise!
